The Meadows

Location & Amenities

The Meadows Village is an established neighbourhood developed throughout the 1980’s. it is located just south of University Parkway, west of Honore Rd, and East of Desoto Lakes and Kensington Park. This village consists of a range of housing, from low rise condo’s to wide-lot detached homes ranging from 1200-2800 square feet. There is a very consistent design to the whole area, with a very natural wooded feel, and full of old oak trees. There are over 1600 acres of open space, 14 trails, and countless lakes. This is truly a nature inspired community.

Local amenities Include the Meadows Golf Club, UTC Mall & Shopping District, Nathan Benderson Park, and all the Downtown Sarasota activities described in the video above.

Best Qualities

The Meadows feels like a quiet oasis in the heart of a bustling city. If you like to go for walks or bike rides surrounded by nature, this area cannot be beat. Also, The Meadows is home to the Meadows Country Club with 2 full golf courses and all the amenities of a recreation centre. Membership is optional, so if you are not a golfer, you can still call The Meadows home. There is a strong sense of community here, as residents gather for local social activities and also have their own small farmer & craft market on the weekend. This area shows pride of ownership throughout. This area tends to be a slightly older demographic, with less young families, as there is a high proportion of villa homes which suit empty nesters and snow birds. There are plenty of single family homes, although many are occupied by long time residents whose families are grown. Watch for when these homes start turning over and a new wave of young families will move in.

Housing Features

The builders of this community put an emphasis on nature and it often feels like these homes have been nestled in between age old trees and lakes. The winding streets have wide-lot homes, which includes a majority of condo and villas, as well as single family homes. Though the angular design is great for housing placement, they continued the angular design inside, which is often not the most current look. In the 1980’s, the trend is for more closed off spaces with angled hallways and kitchen islands. The plus side is that these homes feel bright because of their width, so if you don’t mind the angles or love to renovate, you get great value for money in The Meadows.
